Many people dream of vacationing on the beautiful island paradise of Maui.  However, this can be a major undertaking.  There are many things that you have to research before moving to a new area.  Aside from selling your current home and buying a new home, you will need to give cancellation notices for utilities, give change of address notices for mail subscriptions and transfer medical records.  If you have children, you will need to give proper notice that they will be transferring schools so the school board can transfer their school records and if you belong to any clubs or organizations, you will have to give them notice that you will be moving. It will be necessary arrange with your bank to transfer accounts and change the address on your checks.  You will need to hire a moving company and perhaps hire someone to ship your vehicle(s).  It is important to research the area where you will be moving to find out about local schools, home costs and taxes.  These are just a few of the many things involved in relocating.

I have just read that the Maui Humane Society has received an anonymous $5,000 donation and will consequently be offering free spaying/neutering for cats on Maui. An article I have recently read entitled, “Spay/neuter cats for free now to reduce strays later” states that the Puunene animal shelter will be offering free spaying/neutering of felines during February, the national Prevent A Litter Month.

Spring is the season when most animals reproduce and is one of the busiest seasons for the Maui Humane Society. In a bid to reduce the number of stray and feral felines roaming through Maui neighborhoods, the Maui animal shelter is putting this anonymous $5,000 donation to good use. This program is open to all cats, however, coordinators are concentrating mainly on feral cats and neighborhood strays because the large majority (80%) of domestic cats is already neutered or spayed.

According to this article, 6,300 cats were turned into the animal shelter last year, some went to foster homes and some were kept at the Humane Society for adoption.  If you would like to have your cat spayed or neutered free, you will have to make a reservation with the Maui Humane Society by calling 877-3680 extension 23.

If you would like more information, or would like to help with this program, please read this article in MauiNews.com or contact the Maui Humane Society at 877-3680 ext. 23 for more information.

Aside from working to reduce the number of unwanted strays and feral cats, the Maui Humane Society is also continuously trying to find good homes for the cats it already has. If you or someone you know would like to adopt a kitten or older cat, please contact the Maui Humane Society at the telephone number above.

I was just looking at a website called HousingPredictor.com, when I ran across their Top 25 Real Estate Market Forecast for 2008.  Those who own real estate in Maui have reason to be optimistic or at least relieved.  According to this forecast, Maui is fourth in the top appreciating U.S. markets with a projected 5.6% increase in values.  Honolulu was second overall with a forecasted increase of 6.8% for 2008 making Hawaii the top appreciating U.S. state overall.  Kauai is another area that is expected to do well with a forecasted 4.9% appreciation for this coming year.

Traditionally, Hawaii’s real estate market has had less housing stock than qualified buyers have as well as fewer foreclosures than many areas.  These factors have helped to make Hawaii a housing market that can thrive while others are ailing.  And although Maui home sales and Maui condominium sales are down, the inventory of homes has actually declined bucking the national trend.

If you own property in Hawaii, you will be glad to hear this news especially if you have been waiting for home prices to level off before selling.  If you have recently bought real estate here on Maui, you can relax knowing your investment will not lose value and will potentially gain throughout the coming years.  If you are thinking of buying a home on Maui, this news should help put your mind at ease that Maui is not following the national trend of declining home sales and home values.  Click to read more about Hawaii at HousingPredictor.com

Though one should do their own independent research before deciding whether this or other online, independent forecasts are accurate, Housing predictor’s forecasts for 2007 were correct within a +/- 1 to 2 % margin.
